WISC Level Cards

Welcome to the WISC Website.

XLT Industrial Training and Industry Partners have created the Welding Industry Standards Classification (WISC), an industry-wide recognised classification system to ensure the proper skills development of welders, improve employment prospects, and provide employers with guaranteed access to specialised workers.

A WISC Card enables employers to employ without testing or further training, as the card guarantees that students have met a set level of compentency.

Not Just Another Certification.

Previous industry attempts to certify employees has left employers very disappointed with employees being unable to perform the specialised tasks required for specific projects.

The goal of WISC is to to ensure speciallised skills development through the creation of craftsmanship skills and knowledge, which can only be achieved over time and with sufficient on-the-job experience.

WISC training not only provides students with specialised skills, but also with a generic foundation of skills and knowledge upon which any skill can be developed.

Why does WISC Work?

XLT's reputation for high-standard, quality training amongst the metals, engineering and mining industries ensures employers can have complete confidence that WISC Card holders will make valuable employees.

A large number of companies, including industry giants such as AGC and SimCo, have embraced the WISC initiative as a means to address the lack of skilled workers in Australia.

What are the Benefits of WISC?

WISC increases the skill level and quantity of welders in the industry by making training more accessible to candidates. This is made possible by Industry Partners funding accredited welding training provided by XLT in a traineeship program.

WISC ensures that welding trainees add value to the market by providing practical experience to complement their theoretical training before undertaking work as an accredited welder.

WISC introduces an industry wide recognised classification system for welders and welding procedures. By providing an industry wide classification of welders, shortfalls in skills can be identified and rectified through the provision of further training.
